4 (Optional)IfyoudonotwantVirtualCentertooverridethehost’scurrentlicense
setting,deselectthecheckboxforChangehostlicenseserver
settingstomatch
VirtualCenter’ssettingwhentheyareaddedtoinventory.
SelectingthischeckboxcausestheVirtualCenter Servertooverridethehost’s
currentlicensesettingandinsteadusethelicenseserverusedbyVirtualCenter.
MakesurethatyouuseanIPaddressthatisaccessiblefromtheESX Serverhost.
Ifyou
configureVirtualCentertousealocallicenseserverandthehostnameofthe
locallicenseserver(VirtualCenter’shost)isnotresolvablefromtheESX Server
host,theESX Serverhostisnotabletoacquirelicensesfromthelocallicenseserver.
5ClickOKtosaveyourchanges.
Youdonothaveto
changeanyothersettingstoenablelocallicenseserver
licensing.
Thetotalnumberoflicensesconsumedandavailableonthelicenseserverare
summarizedontheLicensestabintheAdminviewoftheVI Clientconnectedtothe
VirtualCenter Server.(Thistabwaslabeled“LicenseViewer”inearlierversionsof
VirtualCenter .)
Changing the Default License Server Ports
Bydefault,VirtualCenterandESX ServersoftwareisconfiguredtouseTCP/IPports
27000and27010tocommunicatewiththelicenseserver.Ifyoudidnotusethedefault
portsduringlicenseserverinstallation,youmustupdatetheconfigurationoneach
ESX Serverhost.
Ifyouchangethedefaultportsforthelicense
server,logintotheESX Serverhost
serviceconsoleandopentheportsyouwant.
NOTEIfyoudidnotselectthecheckboxfortheoptionalsetting,followtheprocedure
in“ToconfigurecentralizedlicensingforanESX Serverhost”onpage 51tomanually
configureESX Serverhoststouselicenseserverlicensing.
